The Self Help Podcast

Well it’s here, we have done it.

When I lived on the Isle of Wight, off the south coast of the England, I did a late night phone-in programme on local radio. I was the resident psych and people would ring in with psychological problems and dilemmas to discuss and get help. As I listened to the playbacks it struck me, at the time, how powerful the spoken word can be.

I have always been a lover of talk radio, radio plays and dramatisations. I have always felt that when I listen the the pictures in my head are so much better than the video characters that visual media present me with. Having read The Lord Of The Rings and then listening to the BBC audio adaption the films just never quite lived up the to pictures already in my head. The same happened with Harry Potter.

I graduated from radio to audio books. When I was running a company providing psychologists and counsellors to organisation across the UK I was driving about 46,000 miles each year. That is a lot of audio books.

About a year ago Ed and I started talking about using audio media in our Live In The Present work. We looked at audio for books, blogs, podcasts and our apps. The first of these was the the deep relaxation and sleep MP3 “Relax and Let Go”. This was followed by two free meditations “Morning Focus” and the “Evening Review” with many more recordings in the pipeline.

And, now we have gone live with The Self Help Podcast. Number four has just been released and, to date, the feedback has been amazing. Each week Ed and I talk about things that are in the news that have caught our attention and, we highlight a resource that we have each found useful. This might be a book or a recording or an app and so on. The main part of the programme is the topic of the week that is relevant to our self development, and our ability to live in the present.

The feedback on the current podcast recordings is that they are easy to listen to and informative. The only bit of negative feedback was that Ed and I get on to well and that we should be disagreeing more. Not too sure about that. Ed and I are not really the arguing type.

The second bit of feedback, from half a dozen people, is can we make a video version available as well. So Ed looks like it is “makeup, camera and action”. Watch this space!

Take care and live in your present,
Sean x
